'Welcome' Sign for our House Warming

The third challenge as a part of theIron Craft Project 26 was to go with the mood of the month, so our crafts had to have "Hearts and Flowers"!!! Well this could also double up for the second challenge "Orange" that I skipped......this has a lot of orange flowers in it.

 

I have been busy these days with preparations for our up-coming House warming. In my side of the country we have several rituals and customs as a part of the house-warming ceremony and as with all the Indian customs, it goes without saying that it is a very colorful affair.

One of the small custom as a part of the house warming rituals is where the Priest would cover the main door with a sacred white fabric/veil .....before we couple would first enter the newly constructed home. we can always keeps this veil plain and simple but some of us with 'scissors and glue' on mind....can't see anything plain and blank isn't it???..................so here goes my take on the veil.

 

 

Since its the first thing that anybody did see when they enter our house on the "D-day"....I decided to convert this veil into a welcome sign.

 

What went into this:

 

Fabric painting- script In my mother-tongue 'Kannada' ( a South-Indian language) which reads "Welcome", the fence, the bird house, the shining sun and some parts of the tree branch

 

Re-purposed fabric flowers stuck with a strong adhesive, 3-D stickers of birds, sunflowers and butterflies (all from stash) and of course some bling (how can we ever do without it.....isn't it??)

 

And some sewing (though not my cup of tea)- to fasten the blue creepers and leaves.

 



Two sleepless nights and a completed project........a satisfying feeling!! I enjoyed doing this....hope my guests like it too!!
